Scheduled checkrides may be monitored by an FAA official without prior notice.  No one other than an FAA official may be present after the test has begun. Flight instructors are invited to attend both the (pre) and (post) test when we qualify that both the applicant and the aircraft meet the FAA required ACS standard for the type of test given.

No recordings of any kind may be made of the actual testing in the ground or flight portions.

AIRCRAFT TYPE POLICY: I will administer practical tests in most aircraft including approved experimentals, to include conventional gear and tricycle gear aircraft. The aircraft must have the appropriate equipment for the type of practical test. The aircraft MUST have dual controls by regulation.

✔   I don’t ask trick questions.
✔   I treat everyone with respect.
✔   I follow the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) and Practical Test Standards (PTS) to the letter.
✔   I don’t expect perfection; I do expect sound Aeronautical Decision Making and good judgement.
✔   I give my undivided attention during practical tests.
✔   I love what I do and try to keep the mood light.

Payment

I accept cash (USD) and cashier’s checks.  I do not accept credit cards, Zelle, or personal checks. We can now accept Venmo.

Current charges are $850 if you come to KPSK (great facilities) and $1000 or more if I come to you at a previously agreed location*. Retest charges vary with travel but usually $200 to $400 depending on the remaining material to be covered.  (Prices are subject to change).

*(Locations approved must meet specific requirements and provide a personal contact assurnace for privacy, network and printer use, and facilities availability).

Out of area tests

Tests outside my general service area require individual consideration. In some cases I may be willing to travel to the applicant using my personal aircraft to administer a practical test. Or, I may be required to drive to a location near you. These are handled on a case-by-case basis. Please let me know how I can serve you best.

Usually an additional charge will be applied for travel.

Private area and internet connection

If I’m meeting you at a designated airport other than those listed above, you must provide a private area free of distractions and a reliable internet connection. Access to a printer would also be very helpful.

Retest fees

The posted fee schedule applies only to retests for applicants who received a Notice of Disapproval on a previous practical test from me. Applicants seeking a retest after receiving a Notice of Disapproval from another examiner may be charged the full fee for the Practical Test regardless of tasks already completed on the first attempt, unless otherwise specified.

Continuance fees

I recognize that sometimes, despite the best of intentions, issues which may cause a discontinuance are simply out of our hands. Therefore, I do not charge to continue a practical test at a later date (within 60 days of the Letter of Discontinuance) for the following reasons:

  • Unforecast weather
  • Maintenance issue develops during the checkride
  • Unexpected illness
  • Other reasonable circumstances – at the examiner’s discretion

Rescheduling fee

rescheduling fee may be charged due to the following:

  • The airman’s logbook entries do not demonstrate that he/she has met the aeronautical experience requirements for the desired certificate or rating
  • Applicant arrives without required documents including the aircraft maintenance records, proper endorsements, or identification
  • Applicant presents unairworthy aircraft (issue detected prior to start of practical test – i.e. aircraft out of annual or 100 hour inspection or other “easily avoidable” airworthiness issue.

(I will make all reasonable efforts to help rectify the situation before resorting to rescheduling the practical test.)
